If you're using an ATA analog telephone adapter and a subscription-based VoIP service for your home or small business, you already know that the approach can save a lot of money. Unfortunately, you might also know that, as with any technology, problems sometimes arise. For a good diagnosis, you first need to understand what the lights on the ATA mean; they're there to help you figure out what's going on. If they are all working as they should, then the problem is most probably elsewhere and not with the ATA. In this case, check your phone , internet router or modem, connection, and PC configuration. Of course, as a last resort, you can call your VoIP service provider, who most likely shipped your ATA when you subscribed.

If an indicator is not lit or shows a fast blink, pick up your telephone handset and listen to the message, if any. Follow instructions to restart your network devices , if connectivity is not restored. VoIP is Cheap if not free and becoming more and more wide spread every day. However one of the draw backs of VOIP is that you are tied to a computer to make or receive calls. You can get phone adapters but you are still tied to one location, and that location is near a PC. This instructable does not cover setting up a server, but is how to connect that server, or a Vonage or other VoIP router to your home phone wiring.
Phone 2 port is used to connect an additional Vonage phone number or fax number. If you have a single Vonage phone number, you must connect your telephone line to the Ph one 1 port as described in the setup instructions. Connect to Existing Modem.
